King of Disguise

wow. i just watched this documentary on national geographic on The Most Extreme Camouflages.

It was on animals' most ingenious camouflage (countdown from #10 - #1), compared to humans' best disguises (military, etc.).

#2 - 10 were actually kinda blah (like the caterpillar moults and changes skin...) blah.

but #1 was sensational!

Behold :

The Mimic-Octopus

Now there's a guy with considerable talent. Not only can he change his colour, but also his shape and skin texture, all in the blink of an eye.

would you believe that there's an octopus somewhere in that mass of beautiful white coral?

Startle him, though, and he'll adopt the coloration and shape of a spiny, poisonous lionfish.

Aaahh! It's a banded sea-snake! Fly for your life!

But no, *tee hee* it's the octopus again.

Here's a real sea snake in comparison. *shudder* i hate snakes. creepy things.

These pictures don't do the octopus justice. His real talent lies in his acting skills. Dare I say....even better than Orlando Bloom? :)

Him as a flounder.

Not only can he change his appearance drastically to look like other animals, but also, he can act like them! (swimming in a lembek, flat motion like the flounder, assuming the *shudder* curly S-shape of the sea-snake, etc, etc.)

Welcome to the world premiere of Camouflage, starring Mr. Mimic Octopus as The Rock, by The Great Director.
